About Chiropractic

Back Pain Relief and More!

Chiropractic is considered by many to be their number one choice for safe, effective , speedy and natural relief of back pain. However, did you know that chiropractors may also help to provide long-term solutions to a wide range of other musculo-skeletal problems?

Some of the conditions that may respond well to chiropractic care include:

  • Headaches
  • Neck and Back Pain
  • Whiplash
  • Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
  • TMJ (jaw) problems
  • Frozen Shoulder, arm and hand pain
  • Sciatica
  • Hip, Knee, Foot and Heel pain (eg plantar fasciitis)
  • Tendonitis
  • Sports and Dance Injuries
  • Back pain of pregnancy

Here at Cornerstones our chiropractors are pleased to offer joint and muscle treatment techniques to suit the condition as well as our patients’ individual needs. You and your chiropractor can decide on the best methods of care for you at the time of your first visit and review strategies along the way as your treatment progresses.

Within the scope of Chiropractic practice Dr Davidson and Dr Tyler are also able to provide Low Intensity Laser Light Therapy and Prescription Orthotics either independently or in conjunction with other treatments. (Please see our Laser Light Therapy/Custom Orthotics sections for more information.)

OUR APPROACH

At Cornerstones we practise from a ‘holistic’ or whole person perspective, taking into account the many factors that affect one’s health such as trauma, posture, stress, activity level, nutrition, sleep, work habits and genetic disposition.

On your initial visit the chiropractor will take a full health history, asking questions that are pertinent to your specific problem areas as well as general health. This is followed by postural, orthopedic and neurological exams that help to determine the source of your symptoms such as pain, weakness or restricted movement. Depending on the results of the examination it may or may not be necessary to request further tests (eg xrays) to complete the assessment before proceeding with your treatment. On some rare occasions a referral to another specialist may be deemed necessary.

Once an assessment has been completed you will be given a report of findings and a recommendation of the type of treatment that may be appropriate for you. We encourage you to ask questions and discuss any concerns you may have at that time and during any of your visits.

At the beginning of your course of treatment, our intention is to decrease or even eliminate your pain.  We may also be able to help you improve your mobility and strength. However our longer term goals are to make you aware of the root cause of your symptoms as well as provide a plan on how to prevent them returning. At Cornerstones we feel that early detection and care, postural improvement and periodic chiropractic check-ups are all natural ways that may help you help yourself to reach your health goals.

We feel that Chiropractic has an important role to play within the health care system. In the best interest of you, the patient, we always welcome co-operation with other recognized health care providers.
